BOURBON COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - A woman is recovering after accidentally falling asleep at the wheel and driver herself and her young child into a creek.

Kristy Tubbs said she was headed to her in-laws home in Nicholas County Monday to drop off her 2-year-old daughter before going to work, when she just dozed off.

Tubbs said she woke up just as her car fell about 200 feet into the water, "I just remember holding on to the steering wheel and just praying that God be with us." She continued, "Thankfully my door was open where I could get out of the car."

She said she was able to get out of the car and get help, "I got her out, went through the water. Climbed up the embankment, then walked up the road to a house. Thankfully somebody was there, let us in, got us warmed up and called my husband to come get us."

Both mother and child were taken to a hospital to be treated for their injuries, but were released a short time later.
