LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Law enforcement is putting out a warning, saying a disturbing phone call may a scam.
Patricia Mitchell said she was frightened when she answered the phone and a deep voice told her there was a burglary in her neighborhood. It wasn't until a few moments later the voice on the other end of the line told her she was eligible to buy a security system.
Mitchell called police, but unfortunately, most of these cases are never solved.
Sgt. Jason Cullum with the Evansville Police Department explained, "With the way people can run these phones through the internet where it can give you a number that's not even traceable, it's almost impossible for us to back track those."
Cullum said if you receive a similar call, you should do exactly what Mitchell did - hang up and call police.
