ST. BERNARD, OH (FOX19) -
Rumpke Recycling is building a new $32 million facility in St. Bernard.
The project will replace the former facility, destroyed by a fire in April of 2012.
Officials say the new recycling center will be 85,000 square feet, being one of the largest and most technologically advanced residential recycling systems in the United States. The center will be capable of sorting up to 55 tons of material every hour, which is more than twice the amount of the previous facility.
The project will also expand commercial glass recycling, allowing Rumpke to work with more commercial customers like bars and restaurants.
The center will serve more than 4.5 million residents in the Cincinnati area. Officials also estimate it will bring 100 new jobs to the area, mostly full time with a mix of part time and temporary work as well.
The new recycling center is scheduled to open late fall.
