LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Police are investigating after a three-year-old boy was run over in the Barbourmeade neighborhood on Saturday. He was listed in critical condition Saturday night.
Police said the accident happened around 10:00 a.m. in the 7800 block of Crown Top Road.
"We didn't know what it was," said Marilyn Schechter, one of the dozens of people who live in the Barbourmeade neighborhood.
"It's really quiet. It doesn't have a lot of children," Schechter said. But she knew something was wrong when she heard crying.
"I didn't hear any screaming words or anything like that," she said. "The noise I heard was like a lot of crying. I was just bringing my dog in from the backyard, so I came back in the house and I heard a lot of sirens."
Investigators remained on the scene for several hours, trying to piece together how it happened.
Neighbors said the people who lived in the home where the accident occurred are renting and haven't lived there long. Neighbors spent most of the day in the dark about what happened.
"All day long I thought it was some sort of home intrusion because of the police being there for so long," Schechter said. "Hearing that it was a child, that's just awful. I'm so sorry that it happened."
