WILLISBURG, KY (WAVE) – Kentucky State Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide in Washington County.
According to Trooper Billy Gregory of the KSP Columbia post, a call was received around 10:15 p.m. Sunday about a man threatening suicide at a home on Brush Grove Road. About 12 minutes later, Gregory said deputies heading to the scene got a report that someone had been shot.
Washington County deputies, along with KSP troopers and a Special Response Team from KSP, went to the scene. When SRT troopers went inside the home around 3:40 a.m., they found a man and woman dead.
A 911 call released after the shooting recorded a frantic caller;
Caller: He shot my grandma.
Dispatcher: He shot your grandma?
Caller: He f*** killed my grandma. She's dead in the house.
Dispatcher: OK. Who's your grandma?
Debbie Woodford witnessed the first shooting. She said her mother, Phyllis Tarter, 58, was on the phone with police when her husband, Bill Woodford, 52, shot her.
"It was like being in a nightmare," said Debbie Woodford, "Seeing my mom get shot in the head and falling to the floor. It's just really hard. I'm going to have to live with that forever. Seeing my mom shot by my own husband."
Woodford said her husband was drunk and had a gun. Fearing for the safety of everyone, Woodford said her mother picked up the home and called police. It was then when Woodford said her husband shot her mother in the head.
Woodford and her 17-year-old son ran from the house to the home of a neighbor to get help. They were not hurt.
