WASHINGTON (WAVE) - Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said he is optimistic about Afghanistan and favors a residual U.S. Force after Combat troops leave.

Kentucky's Senior Senator just wrapped up with his seventh trip to the county. He explained, "Based on what I've learned on this trip I'm optimistic this country will be able to maintain itself after we are largely gone."

Around 10,000 Combat troops are slated to leave Afghanistan by the end of 2014.

The Congressional group also traveled to Israel where they met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
