CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
Cincinnati Councilman Chris Smitherman released a statement Tuesday afternoon opposing a proposal for a high-end restroom at Findlay Market.
Councilman Chris Seelbach proposed the single, open-air restroom run by solar panels and made of graffiti resistant material, valued at $100,000.
Smitherman says it should not be a priority.
"I am confident that spending a $100,000 on toilets is the wrong direction. Advancing a motion to spend $100,000 on toilets is grossly irresponsible," Smitherman said.
"We're not going to spend $130,000," Seelbach told FOX19 earlier this month. "That's more than we're going to spend. But it is coming from our capital budget. Possibly from our facilities management budget which is exactly what this kind of project is for."
Seelbach says there are alternative products that follow a similar design that he has asked the City to look into.
Seelbach says the bathrooms will cost closer to $50,000. He hopes to have a full report very soon.
