Garage destroyed by early morning fire

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A propane tank could be to blame for an explosion during an overnight fire.

Firefighters were called to the 3300 block Goldsmith Lane around 5 a.m. after a resident heard some sort of explosion and saw the neighbor's garage in flames.

Chief Rick Harrison of the Buechel Fire Protection District said the detached garage was destroyed and the neighboring house sustained heat damage to its siding.

What caused the fire is under investigation. Harrison said there was no car in the garage, but the homeowner was storing several small propane tanks used for camping inside the building.

The cold weather also caused problems because the water used to fire the fire froze in the streets. Metro Public Works crews were called to salt the icy street.
