WASHINGTON, D.C. (WFSB) -

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy met with Vice President Joe Biden to discuss ways of reducing gun violence in the country in Washington D.C. Friday.

On Dec. 14, Adam Lanza, 20, shot and killed his mother as she slept in her bed. He then traveled the few miles to Sandy Hook Elementary School, where he proceeded to shoot out a security window, make his way into the building and kill 20 children and six adults.

Following the shooting, Biden was put in charge of a task force on gun control and it made recommendations that there be bans on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines.

Malloy has previously praised the national call to action on gun violence by the president and Biden and even sent a letter to Biden with recommendations on reducing gun violence. He also talked to the president when he visited Newtown for an interfaith vigil after the shooting.

The governor has recently established a 16-member Sandy Hook Advisory Commission, which will review school safety, gun control laws and regulations and mental health issues.

The commission, which will be led by Chairman Scott Jackson, who is the mayor of Hamden, will release its initial report on March 15.

Biden and Malloy held their private meeting in West Wing office of the White House Friday afternoon.

It is not clear exactly what they discussed at the meeting.
