Trinity's James Quick hit a free throw with one second left to lift the Shamrocks over Ballard 53 to 52 in the championship game of the Republic Bank Louisville Invitational Tourney Saturday night at Valley High School.
Quick, who scored 19 points, was voted the tourney's MVP. Ballard led Trinity by 3 points in the closing seconds, until the Shamrocks' Craig Owens completed a three point play with 14 seconds left in the game. With the score 52-all , Ballard's Quentin Snider then tried to win it but his shot missed just before the buzzer. The title game appeared headed to overtime, but Quick was fouled going after Snider's miss with just one tick left on the clock.
Quick, Kentucky's Mr. Football who is headed to play that sport at U of L, missed the first free toss, but connected on the second to give Trinity the one point advantage. The Bruins had one more desperate chance...but Quick picked off the inbounds pass to end the game.
