LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The extreme cold was a major problem for firefighters battling a house fire in eastern Jefferson County early Wednesday.

Fire crews were called to the 1800 block of English Station Road around 1:30 a.m. Chief Jeff Riddle of the Middletown Fire Department said the call came from a nearby industrial area after workers saw the flames through the woods.

According to Riddle, the home was not occupied and no firefighters were hurt battling the fire.

Riddle said the fire appears to have started in the back of the home, but how it started is under investigation. Arson investigators are looking into the cause.
