Recentemployment advertisements show a growth of nearly 2,000 job ads since lastyear.

Morethan 13,700 local job openings were posted in one month, according to a Decembersnapshot of Toledo area online job postings.

"Thenumber is a little surprising as high as it is with as many people out of workas there are," said Mike Veh, workforce development coordinator at The Source.

Employerssay they are looking for highly-skilled workers. The top ads were for truckdrivers, which is also one of the top training programs at The Source.

"Thechallenge in truck driving is you have to be willing to go over the road atleast for the first year," Veh said. "You're going to be away from home a lot.A lot of folks could do the job and are interested…but they don't want to beaway from their families that much."

Commercialdrivers' licenses were the second most in-demand certification after registerednurses.

Leadingemployers are Blanchard Valley Health System and HRC Manorcare. Promedica tookthe top spot, with 508 jobs posted. Veh said healthcare jobs are in demand, buthard to fill.

"Mainlybecause it's time-consuming and difficult to get the skills necessary for thosejobs," he explained.

TheSource helps job-seekers with resume tips and interviewing skills.

"We'veseen a lot more jobs coming through the door," Veh said. "I think it's a signof things improving and they're going to get better as the year goes on."
