SHARONVILLE, OH (FOX19) -

A local high school invited the community to check out the newest school-based health center in the Tri-State on Monday.

Princeton High School held an open house for the new Viking School Based Health Center.

The project began with a 2011 planning grant from The Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati.

"Concerns about students not receiving primary health care, and the incidence of children suffering from debilitating chronic diseases and behavioral problems prompted us to work with The HealthCare Connection to address these issues," says Dr. Gary Pack, Superintendent, Princeton City School District.

Keynote speaker for the event was Marilyn Crumpton, M.D., M.P.H., of Growing Well Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Health Department.

The Viking School Based Health Center will provide routine physical exams, treatment, immunizations/injections, prescriptions for medications and other primary care services. The Center will be staffed by a certified nurse practitioner, in collaboration with a THCC staff physician, and supported by a licensed practical nurse.

The center officially opens on Wednesday, and will be open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on school days.
