PLAINFIELD, Ind. (AP) - Indiana State Police say a pileup with more than 40 vehicles has closed Interstate 70 in both directions west of Indianapolis.

Local news reports say the crash occurred about 2 p.m. in eastbound lanes near the interchange with Indiana 267.

Video posted on WISH-TV showed cars and semi trailer rigs crashed together and people outside their vehicles surveying damage.

Meteorologist Brad Herold of the National Weather Service says snow was falling at the time of the crash. Roads also would have been slick.

Indiana State Police says the highway is closed between exits 66 and 59. The Indiana Department of Transportation says all lanes will be closed until sometime Thursday night. INDOT says eastbound traffic is being diverted at Indiana 39.

There's no immediate word on injuries.
