The Polar Plunge for Special Olympics returned for its second year at Joe's Crab Shack on Saturday.
More than 750 brave men and women, also known as "polar bears", took the plunge Saturday morning.
Participants each raised a minimum of $75 to take a plunge in a pool's frigid waters. Many participants were in costume and competed in the annual costume contest.
Prizes were awarded for the largest group in attendance as well as the top fundraising group. The top male and female participants were named the King, Queen, Prince and Princess of the plunge and went home with prize packages.
Scott Hildebrand of Campbell County was named King of the Plunge. Hildebrand, a Cold Spring police officer, raised $2,800. Cathryn Lovold was named Queen raising $2,500.
Messer Construction was named Top Team. The construction company raised over $8,500.
In total, the polar bears raised over $130,000. The proceeds from the event went to the Special Olympics programs in both Ohio and Ky.
