Atlanta police bust sex club

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (CBS46) -

A lack of permits led Atlanta police to shut down a club where investigators said undercover officers watched as patrons took part in illegal sex at the club.

Other than loud music playing at odd hours of the night, neighbors told CBS Atlanta News they knew nothing about club.

Samantha Williams was not taken aback by news of the sex club bust just yards from her home.

"In this neighborhood, that wouldn't be surprising.  A lot of things happen around here anyways," Williams said.

Neither was Ghjah Marks.

Marks suspected something fishy was going on, especially after she was propositioned while getting tires for her car.

"The guy was asking questions about me and wanted me to dance in the club. I'm like, really? I mean, what's that about?" said Marks.

After receiving tips about the illegal activity, Atlanta police sent in undercover officers who found a number of permit violations.

"Of course we followed up with the undercover officers and we went in and found that there was indeed an illegal sex club going on. Our undercover officers witnessed open sex within the club and also alcohol throughout the club," Lt. Scott Kreher said.

The club's owner was arrested for several permit violations including selling liquor without a license.

"We're happy that we were able to shut that illegal business down for the community and make that community a little safer," Lt. Kreher said.

Atlanta police plan to continue monitoring the area to make sure the club doesn't reopen.
