Councilwoman sues mayor and Ethics Commission

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A battle between Louisville officials appears to be headed for court. Metro Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin is suing Mayor Greg Fischer as well as the Metro Ethics Commission.

Shanklin claims she was not given a fair hearing last year into allegations that she violated ethics policies.

In the suit, Shanklin alleges the Mayor's Office wouldn't give her answers to questions she had about the ex-offender upholstery training program, which eventually shut down.

The program is the same program which Shanklin is accused of abusing, by allowing family members to participate in and allegedly using neighborhood development funds to cover expenses.

The suit also accuses Mayor Fischer of violating the Open Records Act. The Kentucky Attorney General's Office has already issued an opinion saying there was not enough evidence to support that claim.

The Metro Ethics Commission is expected to rule soon as to whether Shanklin violated the city's ethics ordinance.
