WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) –A local jeweler is getting people talking about one of his newest marketing idea this Valentine's Day.
It's all about getting the most bang for your buck, according to Chris Snowden.
The owner of Snowden's Jewelers in Wilmington is offering a promotion that promises you a free shotgun, if you buy some of his jewels.
"I've heard of other people who have done it," he said. "It wasn't an original idea unfortunately."
Snowden says our area is rural and that this offer will not only please the woman in the relationship but also the man as well.
"A shotgun as a Valentine's Day present I think a lot of guys would like and the girl gets jewelry too so I think it's a win for both."
But don't be fooled. You can't walk into the jewelry store and expect to leave with a shotgun in hand.
Snowden has teamed up with Executive Arms in Wilmington.
Customers must spend at least $1,500 in Snowden's in order to get a $300 gift voucher to Executive Arms. When they arrive at Executive Arms, they will go through an extensive background check along with the necessary paperwork to hand over the gun.
They also have the choice of using that $300 toward something else if they don't want a shotgun.
WECT.com wanted to see if Snowden's political platform was pushing this promotion. WECT.com found that Snowden is pro-gun on some social media websites and he also expressed his support for guns during our interview.
"It's purely business," he said. "I just want people to come in and get things that they want.Shotguns make good hunting weapons as well as home protection weapons. I'm a gun enthusiast myself and I thought it'd be fun."
Customers we spoke with said Snowden is pulling the trigger on this marketing tool a little too soon given the recent debate on gun control across the country.
So far, no one has received a voucher for the free shotgun.
