Cards Add 17 on Signing Day

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville football team inked another impressive recruiting class by adding 17 players to its roster on National Signing Day Wednesday.

Head coach Charlie Strong finished his fourth class since becoming head coach in 2010, and this might rank as one of his better classes since taking over the program. The Cardinals are coming off an 11-2 season, which included a dominating performance over third-ranked Florida in the Sugar Bowl.

The Cardinals' class is highlighted by arguably the best player in the state of Kentucky in Trinity High School star James Quick (Louisville, Ky.). Touted as one of the best wide receivers in the nation, Quick inked with the Cardinals after being named an Army All-American and a Parade honorable mention All-American. The all-time receiving leader in Kentucky high school football history, Quick led the Shamrocks to three state titles during his tenure.

Quarterback Kyle Bolin from Lexington, Ky., adds depth to the quarterback position. Despite suffering a knee injury, Bolin threw for 7,038 yards and 63 touchdowns during his career at Lexington Catholic.

Strong and his staff added eight more players from Florida, including defensive end De'Asian Richardson (Jacksonville, Fla.). Cornerback Richard Benjamin was a highly touted performer out of Tampa, Fla., and linebacker Keith Kelsey was a solid standout in Gainesville, Fla.  Safeties Donel Elam (Orange Park, Fla.) and Terrence Ross (Apopka, Fla.) and cornerback Chucky Williams (Hialeah, Fla.) are also from Florida and are expected to bolster Louisville's secondary. Kyle Shortridge from Loxahatchee, Fla., will add depth on the defensive line.

Offensive lineman Chandler Bridges (Flowery Branch, Ga.) is a solid addition on the offensive line, while Cameron Fraser (Phenix, Ala.) will also add to that position. Skylar Lacy (Indianapolis, Ind.) is the third offensive lineman to sign with the Cardinals this winter.

Keith Towbridge (Toledo, Ohio) is an athletic player who will gives the Cardinals a big target at tight end.

The Cardinals' signees hailed from eight different states, consisting of Florida, Kentucky, Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, Indiana, California, and Ohio. Besides the eight players from the Sunshine State, the Cardinals signed two from Alabama and Kentucky.

Louisville had three players enroll in January in Florida transfer Willie Bailey (Hallandale, Fla.), quarterback Brett Nelson (Chula Vista, Calif.) and defensive end Finesse Middelton (Gadsden, Ala.).
