(RNN) – We've all said it before, "I'm done with Facebook." But according to a new study, more and more people are now taking vacations from the social media site, feel free to call them "Facecations."
Facebook users are citing several reasons for taking a break from the social media giant. According to the Pew Research study, there is a "considerable fluidity" in the user population.
Two-thirds of Americans are now on Facebook and 61 percent have admitted to taking a multi-week break from logging on.
From religious reasons to boredom many Facebookers are finding motivation to take a "Facecaction."
A majority (21 percent) of those who said they took a break from using Facebook said they were too busy and didn't have the time to spend on the website, while 10 percent of the respondents said they were not interested.
Another 10 percent explained it was a waste of time and the content on the site were not relevant. Nine percent said there was excessive "drama" or gossip from their friends, 8 percent felt they were spending too much time on the site and 8 percent believed they needed a break.
According to the study, one in five of adults online stopped using Facebook. Some of the respondents said, "I was tired of stupid comments." … "It was not getting me anywhere." … "Too much drama." ... "I gave it up for Lent." … "It caused problems in my [romantic] relationship."
Privacy and security concerns, which have received plenty of media coverage, were low on the list. Only 4 percent of people gave these reasons, combined with concerns about ads and spam.
The study of 1,006 U.S. adults was done in December.
