Police: Third stranger danger incident reported in Sylvania Township fabricated

SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Sylvania Township Police Chief Robert Boehme now says the third incident involving a stranger and a child did not happen Friday morning.

Boehme says the student said she was walking to the bus stop on Rudyard Road near Alexis Road and had an encounter with a man in a white van around 7:25 a.m. Friday. The story then continued that the girl got on the school bus after the incident, and told school officials what had happened when she got to school. School officials then called police, who began investigating.

The girl later admitted it was a lie. She will be questioned by police and may face criminal charges.

Although police say this latest reported incident has no credibility, there were two other confirmed incidents since the end of January.

Police reported a suspect in a white windowless van attempted to talk to a 12-year-old girl walking home from school on Wednesday. A suspect matching the same description tried to talk to a 9-year-old boy last week.

Anyone with information is urged to call 911 or the Sylvania Township Police Department at 419-882-2055.
