LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - More than 150 law enforcement agencies and law enforcement officials descended on Louisville to attend a three-day seminar on how to deal with line-of-duty traumas.
The training is sponsored by Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.). The organization assists surviving family members of fallen officers in rebuilding their lives after tragedy strikes. More than 15,000 families are C.O.P.S. members.
When officers complete the training Wednesday, they will be properly equipped to identify traumatized officers, handle police suicide, and give proper death notifications.
Each year between 140 and 160 officers are killed in the line of duty.
