MOREHEAD, KY (WAVE) - A 13-year-old boy is recovering after being hit by a car while crossing the street to get on his school bus.

According to neighbors, the car drove right around the bus' flashing lights and hit the boy.

The boy was airlifted to a Lexington hospital where underwent surgery on his leg.

The Rowan County Schools Superintendent says the bus driver followed protocol.

Police arrested the car's driver, Scottie Ingle of Morehead, Kentucky. Ingle faces a list of charges, including wanton endangerment, in the case.
