Downtown building evacuated after gas leak

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A natural gas leak caused a downtown Louisville building to be evacuated for a time Friday.

The leak happened at the Alliant Health Building on the corner of Broadway and Floyd Streets.

The building was cleared until LG&E crews could contain the leak after higher than normal levels of natural gas was detected in the basement. Louisville firefighters allowed workers to return to the building after the gas levels dropped.

A spokesperson for the utility said the leak was found in an 8 inch gas line running under Broadway. LG&E will be excavating the street to repair the leak. Those repairs could take much of the evening.

No one was injured.
