LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Superstar race horse Rachel Alexandra continues to recover from surgery after giving birth to her latest filly.
Her doctor updated her condition Friday afternoon saying she is a "strong mare." Rachel's vital signs remain normal and she was brighter and more alert as she demonstrated an improved attitude.
The mare had to have part of her colon removed because she lost blood supply during birth. Vets and her owners are hopeful saying the filly is doing great and ready to run.
A nursing mare has been brought in and has taken well to Rachel's baby.
