EDGEWOOD, KY (FOX19) -

An Edgewood elementary school is looking forward to a very active month ahead.

St. Pius X School kicked off their first ever 'Healthy Challenge Month' on Wednesday.

As part of the challenge, students are encouraged to participate in 60 minutes of physical activity, five days per week, as well as incorporate healthy eating goals. Students win awards for their participation.

FOX19's Joe Danneman served as emcee for the pep rally.

Student athletes from Covington Catholic High School, Notre Dame Academy, Covington Latin and a volleyball player from Northern Kentucky University all attended Wednesday's pep rally to discuss the importance of staying healthy with students.

The Healthy Challenge is just one of several activities planned throughout the school year at St. Pius X to promote total wellness.
