Strongsville, OH -

In 10 days, hundreds of teachers say they plan to strike.

Teachers packed the high school auditorium in Strongsville Thursday night. The teacher's union gave the school board its notice to strike beginning March 4th.

Bargaining talks began nine months ago and still no resolution.

In response to the Strongsville Education Association (SEA) recent strike authorization vote and reception of the notice of intent to strike, the Strongsville City Schools Board of Education issued the following press release Thursday.

"The board and I are extremely disappointed that the teachers' union has decided to take this action. We are still in negotiations and hope that a strike can be averted," said John Krupinski, superintendent. "The board continues to negotiate in good faith. We presented a contract proposal that reflected the economic realities of these difficult fiscal times."

In anticipation of a work stoppage that may occur on March 4, 2013 Strongsville City Schools is planning for this possibility.

"We will keep the community informed as the mediation process continues, including preparations for a teacher's strike. We will ensure that our schools remain open and are a safe learning environment with qualified teachers in place. We have started the process to make a smooth and orderly transition to a substitute teaching team."

The Strongsville City Schools Board of Education seeks community input and welcomes your questions. As a part of this process, the board reminds the community to connect with the school board or superintendent by visiting our website at www.strongnet.org.
