LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A Louisville Metro EMS unit was one of three vehicles involved in an injury accident in west Louisville Thursday afternoon.

According to MetroSafe, the crash happened at 38th and Broadway at 4:25 p.m.

Kristen Miller, chief of staff for Metro EMS, said the ambulance was on an emergency run and had its lights and sirens operating at the time of the accident.

The ambulance was heading eastbound when it came upon a car that failed to yield. Miller said as the ambulance started to pass the car on the left, the car also started to move left and the vehicles clipped each other. The ambulance crossed the center line and struck a westbound vehicle head on.

Four people, the EMS crew and the two people in the westbound vehicle, were taken to University Hospital for injuries said to be non-life threatening.

Broadway was closed while the accident investigation took place. It was reopened to traffic at 5:50 p.m.
