MORROW, OH (FOX19) -
A Little Miami High School swimmer is headed to the state championships in Canton.
Students and the marching band held a send-off for sophomore Jack German on Thursday as he heads to the OHSAA State Swimming and Diving Championships
this weekend at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.
German
qualified for state in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke
after two performances at the Southwest Ohio Division I
District Championships at Miami University last weekend.
The
sophomore tied for second in the freestyle event, qualifying 10th for the
state meet. He finished fourth in the district backstroke contest,
qualifying 13th in that event for Canton.
German will be one of
only three sophomores in the freestyle event at state, and qualified one
spot ahead of rival Jimmy Koloseike of Kings Local Schools in the
backstroke.
German is the first Little Miami swimmer to qualify
for state-level competition since Steve Zimmerman and Tyler Benner did
so in 2011.
