LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - New information is coming to light about the man who police say gunned down a mother at a Clarksville home February 18. Ronald Shewmaker was in court Friday to face the charges that he killed Lisa McQuirt in a fit of jealousy.

With fresh, explained wounds on his head, Shewmaker walked past cameras in the Clark County courthouse with little to say. Court documents obtained by WAVE 3 say Shewmaker did all of his talking before his arrest: his parents told police Shewmaker made incriminating statements about his involvement in McQuirt's murder.

"We do have strong evidence in the case," said Clark County chief deputy prosecutor Jeremy Mull. "There was a significant amount of physical evidence that was collected."

The same court papers say police found something that looked like blood on Shewmaker's shoe when they arrested him, a 9 mm gun and shell casings in his truck that matched one found at the murder scene.

Brian Butler, Shewmaker's attorney, said he just got involved with the case.

"It's a situation where the state knows what evidence they have at this point," Butler said. "We haven't had an opportunity to view that evidence."

Some of that evidence comes from the man McQuirt was staying with. He told police that Shewmaker was her "money man" and was at the club where she worked every day.

"It seems evident that there was a jealousy issue at play here with the defendant going to another man's house where she was staying," Mull said.

"This young lady had several children and was brutally gunned down."

Mull said Shewmaker has been in the hospital, but didn't elaborate on why. Shewmaker has pled not guilty and is being held without bond for now.
