Fort Knox soldier and wife found dead identified

Fort Knox, KY (WAVE) - The names of a Fort Knox soldier and his wife who died on Friday, February 22nd have been released. Spc. Christopher Meeks and his spouse Krista reportedly died at their on-post residence.

Fort Knox Police went to the residence, located in the Oak Park neighborhood at around 3:40 a.m. Police went in response to a phone made from the residence. Officers at the scene heard gunfire from inside the residence and went inside, where the couple was found with gunshot wounds. Spc. Meeks had already died, while Krista Meeks was treated but also died at the scene.

The couple's two children were present at the time of the shooting, but neither was injured. Both children have been placed in temporary foster care.

Spc. Meeks was a human resources specialist with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.  He had been assigned to the Fort Knox unit since March 2011.

Agents from U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command went to the scene immediately following the incident. The couple's deaths are still under investigation and no further information will be released while investigation proceeds.
