Film of a local woman in Oscar running


A film that tells the story of a local woman is in the running for Best Documentary at the Oscars tonight.

The Invisible War introduces viewers to Kori Cioca who grew up in Wilmington.

Cioca left the Coast Guard after being beaten and raped by a supervisor.

Cioca says after she was raped in 2005. She was told that if she reported it, she would be court-martialed for lying. She claims that after charges were filed, her supervisor plead guilty only to hitting her.

Cioca was discharged while her supervisor remained in the Coast Guard.

Cioca and her husband will attend Sunday's award ceremony and sit with the film's producers.
