Grenadiers Clinch Sixth-Straight KIAC Title With 74-62 Win Over Asbury
NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Cameron Mitchell and Jake Simpson each had 19 points as IU Southeast won its sixth-straight KIAC title with a 74-62 win over Asbury Tuesday.
The Grenadiers' offense was solid throughout the game. IU Southeast shot 51 percent from the field and 57 percent in the first half. The Grenadiers (27-4) shot six of 15 (40 percent) from three point range.
Asbury (20-13) led 41-35 at halftime behind senior Adam Delph's 17 points on seven of eight shooting.
The Grenadiers' defense clamped down on the Eagles in the second half. Delph was held to just four points and the Eagles shot 36 percent from the field. Asbury was just one of nine from three-point range in the final frame.
Kevin Mitchell had 14 points and Terence Billups had 10 points for the Grenadiers to round out the double-figure scorers for IU Southeast.
IU Southeast head coach Wiley Brown has won a KIAC tournament title in each of his six years at the helm of the Grenadiers.
IU Southeast will learn its seed and first round opponent tomorrow during the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Selection Show.
