Spring is right around the corner and with Severe Weather Awareness Week coming up, the Perrysburg Fire Division wants to make sure you know how to stay informed.
There are emergency alert systems in counties throughout the state, but there may be better ways for you to find out if severe weather is heading your way.
If you are at home or at work when extreme weather hits, you may not be able to hear sirens due to closed windows, air conditionING, or insulation. But even if you are outside when the sirens go off, wearing headphones and distance from the sirens can also affect how well you hear them.
To make sure Ohioans are prepared for weather emergencies, there will be a statewide tornado drill March 6 at 9:50 a.m. Officials recommend you listen to see how well you can hear the alerts, both inside and outside your home. If you find you cannot hear the sirens, you may want to consider other ways to stay up to date.
"Find something else as a backup to let you know that this is coming, especially something that you're gonna hear at night that will wake you up," said Fire Chief Jeff Klein of the Perrysburg Fire Division.
