LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Despite a last minute White House meeting that went nowhere, Sequestration will actually kick in. It means $85 billion in cross-the-board federal spending cuts. Democrats are calling it a disaster. Republicans call that hype.

When asked why he didn't just lock the doors until an agreement was reached, President Obama said, "If Mitch McConnell and John Boehner are saying we've got to go to catch a plane, I can't have Secret Service block the doorway."

When McConnell, the Senate Minority Leader, arrived at Louisville International Airport Friday afternoon he shot back at the president.

"The Sequester, by the way, was his idea," said McConnell. "We all agree it's not the best way to reduce spending, but it's time we did that. Washington has a spending addiction and it's time we deal with that addiction."

McConnell said Republicans will not negotiate with the administration until it finds a responsible way to curb federal spending.

President Obama said Republicans are being unreasonable and the Sequester will have a negative impact on the growth of the U.S. economy.
