Field Set for 2013 Deaconess GLVC Men's Basketball Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS
– The 12-team field is set for the 2013 Deaconess GLVC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament, as the bracket was officially released by the conference office late Thursday night.  Twelve of the league's 16 schools advanced to the postseason tournament, with four schools earning first-round byes.  The remaining eight teams will open the conference tournament on campus Sunday with hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals, which take place at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind., March 7-10.

Top-seeded Drury (22-4, 16-2 GLVC) earned one of the four first-round byes following a regular season that saw the Panthers earn the outright GLVC West Division title.  UW-Parkside (19-7, 13) ended the 18-game conference slate as the East Division Champions and the No. 2 seed, despite a 68-61 road loss at Lewis on Thursday.  No. 3 Southern Indiana (20-6, 13-5) and No. 4 Maryville (23-8, 12-6) also earned first-round byes and a trip to the Ford Center.  The Saints claimed the final first-round bye over Bellarmine due to a 69-64 home win against the Knights on Jan. 12.

Four games will be contested on campus Sunday, including No. 5 Bellarmine (20-6, 12-6) hosting No. 12 Illinois Springfield (8-18, 6-12) in Louisville, Ky., at 3:15 p.m. ET.  The Knights, who garnered the fifth seed due to a pair of wins against Lewis, earned an 81-52 home victory over the Prairie Stars on Jan. 5.

No. 11 Quincy (12-14, 7-11) will travel to Romeoville, Ill., to face No. 6 Lewis (18-8, 12-6) at 2 p.m. CT.  This will be the first meeting between the two schools this year.

Kentucky Wesleyan (19-7, 11-7 ) is the No. 7 seed following a two-win tiebreaker over Indianapolis, and will host No. 10 William Jewell (13-13, 9-9) in Owensboro, Ky., at 3 p.m. CT on Sunday.  The game will mark the first contest between the two teams this year.

No. 8 Indianapolis (19-7, 11-7) will serve as host to No. 9 Missouri-St. Louis (17-9, 10-8) on Sunday at 5:15 p.m. ET.  It will also mark the first contest between the two programs this season.

Following Sunday's four first-round contests, the winners will be reseeded Nos. 5-8 and placed accordingly against the tournament's top four seeds.
