LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville woman was found dead on Sunday after the home she was renting caught fire.

The fire started in a house on Cypress Street at 5:21 Sunday morning.

Darrell Aniton said it was his sister, Vernice, who was renting the home where she lost her life. Aniton and his family believe a furnace may be to blame. "She's been having trouble with the furnace and she was expecting the furnace, someone to come out and take a look at the furnace" Aniton said.

The Jefferson County Coronor ruled on Monday that the woman was killed before the fire was set.

Fire crews arrived on Sunday to find the house fully engulfed and spreading to a neighboring home. Larry Fugett, who lives across the street, said the fire woke up his family, "A boom woke my granddaughter up," Fugett said. "My granddaughter came and wake us up and we tried to get in the house but couldn't get in."

Crews were able to contain both fires. On Monday, police were continuing to look for suspects in the murder and fire.
