Waterline project to improve Ky. water contamination levels

Governor Steve Beshear announced a $1 million project for the design and construction of a new waterline project in Kenton County.

The project will provide public water service to residents who currently rely on cisterns and wells.  These water sources are easily subject to contamination.

Water tests have recently found 13 bad wells and cisterns and 13 instances of contamination, such as the E. coli bacteria, in the Kenton County area. Many residents in the area currently purchase bottled water for drinking to avoid contamination.

The $1 million Community Development Block Grant will go to the Northern Kentucky Water District for the design and construction of 6.74 miles of waterlines, fire hydrants and other related structures.

Once implemented, the project expects to provide water services to 135 households and reduce each household's water rate.
