New center to tutor at risk youth

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE)  - Louisville's mayor got help from Boy Scouts as he announced a new after school program.

At 11 a.m. Monday Mayor Greg Fischer and Councilman David James met at the California Community Center to speak about the California Nova Center.

The canter is an innovative after school program set up to give at-risk school age boys and girls the opportunity to learn life skills, including how to deal with drugs and violence in addition to  math and science tutoring.

The new center plans to provide a gym, kitchen and activity center in addition to classrooms and will be available to students Monday through Thursday from 3: 45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

The funding for the new program will be provided by the Boy Scouts of America and Lincoln Heritage Council Chapter of Louisville.
