LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Sterling Williams, the 20-year-old Valley High School student accused of bringing a gun to school was in court on Thursday morning.
Jefferson County District Court Judge Sandra McLaughlin ordered him to stay away from the school, live with his mother, not possess any firearms and be back in court March 18.
Williams is charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm on school property.
School leaders were checking lockers during an investigation of an unrelated matter when an assistant principal found a handgun inside Williams' locker. It was not immediately clear whether the gun was loaded.
Williams was taken into custody without incident and questioned before his arrest. Investigators said no other students were involved in the incident.
In a letter sent home to parents, Valley principal Gary Hurt said students and staff were never threatened.
