IUS advances in NAIA DII tournament

Grenadiers Edge VCSU 75-72 To Advance To NAIA Second Round


POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – No. 11 seed IU Southeast survived a late charge from Valley City State (N.D.) to advance to the second round of the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament with a 75-72 win.

Kegan Clark led IU Southeast with 17 points. Kevin Mitchell had 14 points and Jake Simpson and Matt Trimnell each had 12 for the Grenadiers.

IU Southeast led by as many as eight in the first half before the Vikings were able to cut into the deficit. IU Southeast led 36-34 at halftime.

The lead swung back and forth throughout the second half before the Grenadiers opened up a seven-point lead with about two minutes to play. IU Southeast then turned the ball over on consecutive possessions and VCSU was able to eventually take the lead with under a minute to play.

Clark got a layup to give IU Southeast a 73-72 lead and Kevin Mitchell hit two free throws to secure the win. A desperation three-pointer from VCSU fell short as time expired.

Sekani Milligen had 23 points in the loss for the Vikings.

IU Southeast will face the winner of Saint Mary and No. 6 St. Xavier on Friday at 5 p.m. ET.
