LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Theatre lovers will be treated to a quartet of musicals and a moving play during the 2013-1014 PNC Broadway in Louisville season. The schedule for next season was announced on Thursday.
Joining the previously announced headliner The Book of Mormon are four shows either based on movies or turned into one. They include The Addams Family, War Horse, Sister Act and Ghost the Musical. All shows will be performed at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts.
"We are thrilled to announce a season of all new musicals from Broadway," said PNC Broadway in Louisville President Leslie Broecker. "Over the past two years we've had significant growth in our subscriber base, and this line-up is certain to continue that trend."
Here is the schedule for the 2013-2014 season and a description of each show:
The Addams Family: October 15-20, 2013 – The smash-hit musical comedy brings the darkly delirious world of Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Grandma, Wednesday, Pugsley and Lurch to spooky and spectacular life. It is based on the hit movie that was based on the hit TV series.
War Horse: November 19-24, 2013 – This heartwarming tale of loyalty and friendship between a boy and horse won five 2011 Tony Awards. Based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo, War Horse was turned into an Oscar-nominated film in 2011, directed by Steven Spielberg. At the play's heart are astonishing life-sized horse puppets created by South Africa's Handspring Puppet Company.
Sister Act: January 7-12, 2014 – Based on the hit movie musical starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act features original music by eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken. It tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier whose life takes a surprising turn when she witness a crime and goes into hiding in the last place anyone would think to look – a convent! Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sister find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.
Ghost the Musical: March 11-16, 2014 – Relive the iconic and magical moments from the Oscar-winning movie Ghost in this brand new Broadway musical that follows Sam and Molly, a young couple whose connection takes a shocking turn after Sam's untimely death.
The Book of Mormon: May 27-June 8, 2014 – Ben Brantley of The New York Times calls it "the best musical of this century."Entertainment Weekly says it's "the funniest musical of all time." From South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, it's The Book of Mormon, winner of nine Tony Awards including Best Musical.
Due to its popularity, The Book of Mormon will play a limited two-week engagement. Broecker said the only way to guarantee tickets to The Book of Mormon is to become a season ticket holder. Season tickets go on sale Thursday, March 7 three different ways: in person at the PNC Broadway in Louisville box office at 620 W. Main Street, Suite 100, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; online at BroadwayInLouisville.com; and by phone at 800-284-1894. Hotline hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 12 to 5 p.m.
Prices for the five-show season ticket package range between $138 and $542, depending on seat location. New season ticket holders can order before April 12 and make three monthly payments.
