CLARKSVILLE, IN (WAVE) – A southern
Indiana neighborhood was on edge Monday after a man was found shot to death
inside his home. The homicide happened in the 2300 block of Plum Woods Drive in
the Plum Lakes Subdivision in Clarksville near the Sellersburg line.
"I do not know these people
down the street, but my friend did, and she said they were very nice people,"
said neighbor Jan Sinex.
Clarksville police said a relative who
lives at the home came home just before noon and found the victim, whom they
described as being around 45 years old, with a single gunshot wound. Police
believe the shooting happened sometime between 9:45 a.m. and noon on Monday.
Tom Crispin lives two doors down.
"It's a shame," he said. "It's a tragedy. It's more than a
shame, but anymore, nothing really surprises you as to what might go on. But we
haven't experienced anything like this in this neighborhood, that's for
sure."
Police said four people lived inside
the home. "I believe there was husband and wife, a son, and it is my
understanding there was a brother-in-law," said Crispin.
Investigators wouldn't say whether
there were signs of forced entry.
"I want to know if I should be
frightened," said Sinex. "I want to know if I can walk my dog at
night and if I can walk by myself in the mornings."
"Be aware of your surroundings
is what we can tell you," said Major Darrell Rayborn of Clarksville
Police. "We can't say what went on here in the house for sure. We are
trying to determine that now."
Police said they did not find the
murder weapon at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
Police said family members have been
questioned, but at this time they don't have a suspect. No arrests have been
made.
