LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Hollywood star Ashley Judd garnered national attention following suggestions that she might run as a Democrat as a U.S. Senate candidate from Kentucky in 2014. Now, The Huffington Post is quoting some key advisers and political figures as saying Judd definitely will run and will announce her candidacy at the Kentucky Derby.
Judd hasn't said whether she will run, but sources say Judd has hired the same media consultants who worked on President Obama's campaign. If she does run, she will going up against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. His campaign already is addressed the Judd question, though not head on.
"We'll focus on an opponent once one actually files," Campaign Manager Jesse Benton said. "In the meantime, we're just focusing on building the best campaign organization Kentucky has ever seen."
Judd has a history of activism, a degree from Harvard, star power and Kentucky roots. If she runs she will have to establish her residency in the state. She currently resides in Nashville, TN.
