The defendants walked into court Monday morning.
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Five of the
eight women accused of stealing money and credit cards from purses at
Louisville-area doctor's offices and hospitals pleaded not guilty on Monday.
Teyana Locke and sisters Nicolle,
Lashonda, April and Anjanette Jefferson were taken back into custody Monday
morning after they entered their pleas. Some of them were crying.
An attorney for one of the women said he believes the case will wrap up sooner rather than later because most of the
defendants are cooperating with investigators. That could mean a plea deal is
in the works.
As for the three women who did not
appear in court, Donnika Jefferson is in the Grayson County Jail on an
unrelated charge, and the judge issued bench warrants for Adrienne Talbot and
Tamara Jefferson.
