Possible crack to cause delays on Kennedy Bridge

The Kennedy Bridge.

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Commuters who use the Kennedy Bridge will need to plan for delays.

The right northbound lane on the bridge will be shut down from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, because of a possible crack in a steel rod on the bridge.

Andrea Clifford with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said the steel section in question carries little load on the bridge, "If there is a crack there they'll drill a hole in it to keep the crack from extending. It's common, been used on other bridges before."

The bridge is expected to reopen in time for Wednesday's evening commute.
