LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – An inspection of the Kennedy Bridge will force crews
to shut down part of the bridge on Wednesday.
The right hand land on the northbound side of the Kennedy Bridge will be
closed from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Wednesday while bridge inspectors with the
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet take a closer look at a possible crack. The crack
is in the steel on one of the upper cords, a portion that carried light load
from the bridge. It was discovered during a detailed inspection of the bridge
last fall.
"They want to look at that and make sure that crack does not extend to
those flanges," said Andrea Clifford with KYTC. "So if there is a crack there, they
will drill a small piece of metal out to keep that crack from extending."
Clifford said the process was not expected to last beyond Wednesday.
