GLOBE, AZ (CBS5) -

Search and rescue personnel rescued an injured hiker Thursday morning who spent the night at the bottom of a canyon near Globe and flew him to a nearby hospital.

Detective Johnny Holmes of the Gila County Sheriff's Office said the man fell in the Parker Creek area near Young about 5 p.m. Wednesday. He was hiking with another man, who called 911 after the fall.

He was airlifted by an Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter to a nearby staging area, where he was transferred to a medical helicopter that took him to the hospital.

Rescuers reached the man around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and said he suffered some broken bones, but was conscious and stable. Crews stayed with the victim overnight.

The victim said he fell between 60 to 70 feet.
