PHOENIX (AP) -
Republicans and tea party activists challenging Arizona's legislative districts have obtained a court order for an interview that they say could provide smoking-gun evidence that at least part of the map was drawn to benefit Democrats.
A federal court granted the challengers' request to order a Democratic Party official to give a sworn deposition. That's now scheduled March 20 as both sides prepare for a trial on the challengers' lawsuit.
The lawsuit argues that the commission varied districts' populations in an attempt to help Democrats.
The Arizona Capitol Times reports that the challengers' lawyers had said a
Democrat on Arizona's redistricting commission has said she may have used redistricting changes provided by the party official.
The commission's lawyers said the challengers' made their request too late in trial preparations.
