New white paper examines a transformative architecture that leverages open source platforms to achieve sustainable and adaptable defense systems.
Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) March 19, 2013
Despite rapid advancements in software and the evolving nature of modern warfare, many key defense systems use the same legacy architecture as when they were first deployed 10 to 30 years ago. A new white paper from WSO2 examines the challenges that defense acquisition organizations face in adapting legacy systems to the current needs of the military and defense intelligence communities, as well as how new software approaches in server-based and cloud computing offer the promise to overcome these challenges.
“Integration Platforms and App Factories: The Transformation of Legacy Defense Systems,” is the latest in a series of white papers from Adam Firestone, WSO2 director of defense and government solutions. In the paper, Firestone, a former US Army officer and defense industry IT executive, addresses the limitations in interoperability and agility that monolithic, tightly coupled architectures typically present when applied to a system of systems context. The paper then explores how service-oriented architecture (SOA) principles around granular, modular, composable and interoperable services—applied either on the platform or the cloud—can overcome infrastructural challenges within legacy defense systems.
Key topics include:
